Also known as: Orodruin, Amon Amarth, The Fire-Mountain, Sammath Naur
Orodruin, the burning mountain in the plain of Gorgoroth, called in Gondor Amon Amarth — Mount Doom. In its heart-chambers, the Sammath Naur, Sauron forged the One Ring, and only there could it be unmade. Its fires answered their master's moods, smoking when his power rose. Frodo and Sam crawled to it across the desolation of Mordor; at the Crack of Doom Frodo's will failed at the last, and it was Gollum — and the pity that had spared him — that took the Ring into the Fire.
