Elrond Halfelven

Also known as: Lord Of Rivendell, Master Of Imladris, Elrond Peredhel

Son of Earendil the Mariner and Elwing, and twin brother of Elros, Elrond is one of the great figures who bridges the ages of Middle-earth. Born at the end of the First Age, he was given the choice of his kindred and chose to be counted among the Elves, while his brother Elros chose mortality and became the first King of Numenor. Elrond served as herald to Gil-galad, the last High King of the Noldor, and fought in the Last Alliance against Sauron. He witnessed Isildur's fateful refusal to destroy the One Ring.

Elrond founded Rivendell (Imladris) as a refuge and maintained it as a place of learning, healing, and counsel for over three thousand years. He bore Vilya, the Ring of Air and mightiest of the Three Elven Rings. He married Celebrian, daughter of Galadriel and Celeborn, and had three children: the twins Elladan and Elrohir, and Arwen Undomiel. When Celebrian was captured and tormented by Orcs in the Misty Mountains, Elrond healed her body but her spirit was wounded beyond recovery, and she departed to the West. Elrond raised the young Aragorn in Rivendell and though he loved him, he set a high price on Arwen's hand: Aragorn must become King of both Arnor and Gondor. Elrond hosted the Council that decided the fate of the Ring and helped forge the Fellowship. After the War of the Ring, he departed Middle-earth, knowing he would lose his daughter Arwen to mortality.
