The Sceptre of Annuminas was the chief mark of royalty of Arnor, the North-kingdom, and the most ancient work of the hands of Men preserved in Middle-earth -- older even than the kingdom, for it had been the rod of the Lords of Andunie in Numenor before the Downfall. Where the kings of Gondor bore a crown, the kings of Arnor bore this silver sceptre. Elrond kept it in Rivendell through all the long years that the North had no king, and brought it at the last to the wedding of Aragorn and Arwen, surrendering it to the lord of the restored realm.
