The Iron Crown Of Morgoth

Also known as: The Iron Crown

The Iron Crown was the great crown that Morgoth forged for himself in mockery of kingship, and into it he set the three Silmarils he had stolen from the Noldor. Their hallowed light seared his hands and could not be endured, yet he never dared put the crown aside, and wore it in unceasing pain as a token of his lordship over Middle-earth. It was from this crown that Beren and Luthien cut a single Silmaril, the deed of their quest. After the War of Wrath at the end of the First Age, when Morgoth was thrown down and bound, the Valar beat his iron crown into a collar for his neck and thrust him out into the Void.
