Lamethir has no accounts, sets no cookies, shows no ads and does not fingerprint your device. What you type stays in your browser. We count how the site is used with cookieless analytics, which record what happened, never what you wrote.

What we measure

We use Umami, a cookieless analytics service. It stores nothing on your device, gives you no identifier, and cannot link one visit to the next or follow you to other sites, which is why there is no consent banner. Umami receives your IP address with each request, as any website does, and uses it to count visits and derive a country.

Recorded: which pages are viewed and where visitors came from; the browser, device type and country Umami derives; and what people do, described only by interface details. That covers the features used, the language pair, and how a translation turned out (complete, partial, a labelled guess or not possible), with word counts given as ranges. It also covers progress through lessons and the games, how far a page is read, which other sites are linked to (the site name only), how fast pages load, and errors, with any quoted text, web address or number removed first.

Never recorded: the text you type or its translation, your searches, the answers you give in lessons, the words you forge in the games, or anything that identifies you across visits. The one exception is text we wrote: if you tap one of Lamethir's own suggested example phrases, the event says which one.

We do this because we have a legitimate interest in knowing what works and what does not. If you would rather not be counted, a content blocker that blocks cloud.umami.is stops it entirely, and the site works the same.

When your text can leave your device

There are only two cases, and both need you to act. A shareable link (the Link button) puts the text in the address itself, so anyone you send it to, your browser history and the services it passes through can see it. Use Copy instead for text you want to keep private. Reporting a translation sends exactly what the report page shows you, including your correction and any contact details you add, to us through Netlify's form service, and only when you press Send.

On your device

Your settings and progress are kept in your browser's local storage (keys beginning lamethir_): your chosen language and look, which hints you have seen, lesson progress, easter eggs, and your saves in the three games. A service worker caches the app's files so it loads fast and works offline. None of this is sent anywhere, and clearing the site's data in your browser removes all of it.

Other services

Netlify hosts the site and, like any host, handles each request to serve it. A coarse country code from that request is used once, while serving the page, to default to Hindi in India; nothing is stored about it for us. Cusdis runs the optional comments on the blog and guestbook, which load only when you click to show them. If you post a comment, your name and message are stored there. Fonts and every other file are served from Lamethir itself.

Who we are, and your rights

Lamethir is run by Algis Marcinkevicius, who decides how this data is used.

You can ask what we hold about you, and ask for it to be corrected or deleted. In practice that is only a translation report or a comment you chose to send, since nothing else we hold identifies you. Write to privacy@lamethir.com or use the privacy request form, and you will have an answer within a month. If you are in the EU or UK, you can also complain to your data protection authority. If this policy changes, the date above changes with it.
