Beren Erchamion

Also known as: Beren One-Hand, Son Of Barahir

A mortal man of the House of Beor who accomplished the greatest deed of any Man in the First Age: the recovery of a Silmaril from Morgoth's Iron Crown. Beren was the sole survivor of his father Barahir's outlaw band after Sauron's forces destroyed them. Wandering through great peril, he came to Doriath and fell in love with Luthien Tinuviel. King Thingol, deeming no mortal worthy of his daughter, set what he believed was an impossible task: bringing him a Silmaril. Beren, with Luthien's aid, achieved the quest, but lost his hand to the great wolf Carcharoth (along with the Silmaril within it). He was slain in the Hunting of the Wolf but was uniquely restored to life by the intercession of Luthien before Mandos, living with her in mortality on Tol Galen. Through his descendants, the blood of Beren and Luthien reaches to Aragorn himself.
