Also known as: Elu Thingol, Elwe Singollo, King Of Doriath
Originally Elwe, one of the three ambassadors of the Elves who went to Valinor and returned to lead the Great Journey. Elwe was lost in the forests of Beleriand when he encountered Melian the Maia and fell into an enchanted trance of love. He became King of the Sindar and established the great underground kingdom of Doriath, protected by Melian's Girdle. Thingol was proud and imperious; he set Beren the impossible task of recovering a Silmaril as the bride-price for Luthien's hand. He was slain by Dwarves in his own halls when he quarreled with them over a Silmaril that had been set in the Nauglamir.
