Also known as: The Hidden Kingdom, Menegroth, The Thousand Caves
The guarded kingdom of Thingol and Melian in the forests of Beleriand, protected by the enchanted Girdle of Melian which none could pass without the king's leave. Its capital was Menegroth, the Thousand Caves, accounted the fairest dwelling of any king east of the sea. Lúthien was born there, and there Beren came as the first mortal to walk its woods. Doriath fell not to Morgoth but to the curse of the Silmaril: Thingol was slain by Dwarves over the Nauglamír, and the kingdom was finally destroyed by the sons of Fëanor.
