The hidden city of Turgon, built in secret in the mountain-ringed vale of Tumladen and unseen by friend or foe for almost four hundred years. Modeled on Tirion in Valinor, it was the fairest of Elven cities in Middle-earth, and the great swords Glamdring and Orcrist were forged there. It was betrayed at last by Maeglin, the king's own nephew, and destroyed by Morgoth's dragons and Balrogs — but Tuor, Idril, and the child Eärendil escaped, and from that escape came the hope of the world.
