Also known as: Son Of Huor, Father Of Earendil
Tuor, son of Huor and cousin of Turin Turambar, was born in the wild after the Nirnaeth Arnoediad and raised among the Grey-elves of Mithrim before falling for a time into thraldom under the Easterlings. Escaping into the wilderness, he was guided by Ulmo, Lord of Waters, who chose him as his messenger; at the deserted halls of Vinyamar he found the arms and armour that Turgon had left there long before at Ulmo's bidding, and clad in them he was led by the Elf Voronwe along the hidden ways to Gondolin. There he delivered Ulmo's warning that the city must be forsaken, but Turgon, trusting still in its secrecy, would not heed it.
Tuor remained in Gondolin and won the love of Idril Celebrindal, Turgon's daughter -- only the second union of Elf and Man -- and their son was Earendil the Mariner. When Maeglin's treachery delivered the city to Morgoth, Tuor fought valiantly through its burning and led the survivors out by the secret way that Idril had prepared, down the perilous cleft of Cirith Thoronath. In after years, feeling old age creep upon him, he built the ship Earrame and sailed with Idril into the West, and passed from the knowledge of Men; yet alone of mortals, the legend holds, Tuor was numbered among the kindred of the Elves and did not share the fate of his race.
