Cousin of Turin, Tuor was chosen by the Vala Ulmo as his messenger. Ulmo appeared to him at Vinyamar and sent him to Gondolin to warn Turgon of the city's doom. Though Turgon did not heed the warning, Tuor remained in Gondolin and married Idril, Turgon's daughter. When Gondolin fell, Tuor led the survivors to safety through Idril's secret passage. He and Idril later sailed into the West, and legend says Tuor alone among Men was counted among the Eldar, granted a unique grace.
