Son of Eol the Dark Elf and Aredhel (sister of Turgon), Maeglin was a prince of Gondolin, skilled in mining and smithcraft. He harbored a forbidden love for his cousin Idril. Captured by Morgoth, he betrayed the location of Gondolin in exchange for the promise of lordship over the city and Idril. During the Fall of Gondolin, he attempted to seize Idril and her son Earendil, but was cast from the walls by Tuor.
