An Elf of Gondolin and the sole survivor of the seven ships Turgon sent westward seeking aid from the Valar. All the other ships were lost, but Ulmo preserved Voronwe and cast him ashore at Vinyamar, the ancient house of Turgon. There he met Tuor, who had been sent by Ulmo to find Gondolin. Voronwe, bound by the words of Ulmo and guided by his own fate, agreed to lead Tuor to the hidden city through the long and perilous winter journey. Without Voronwe's guidance, Tuor would never have reached Gondolin, and Earendil would never have been born.
