Also known as: Strider, Elessar, Isildur's Heir, Dunadan, Thorongil, Envinyatar, Estel, King Of The Reunited Kingdom
Aragorn II, son of Arathorn II and Gilraen, is the heir of Isildur and the rightful King of both Arnor and Gondor. He is the thirty-ninth and last Chieftain of the Dunedain of the North, bearing the bloodline that stretches back unbroken to Elendil and beyond to Earendil and Luthien. Raised in Rivendell under the name Estel ("Hope") after his father was killed when Aragorn was only two, he did not learn his true identity until the age of twenty, when Elrond revealed his heritage and gave him the shards of Narsil and the Ring of Barahir.
For decades before the War of the Ring, Aragorn wandered Middle-earth under many guises. As Thorongil, he served both Thengel of Rohan and Ecthelion II of Gondor, leading a daring raid that destroyed much of the Corsair fleet at Umbar. As a Ranger, he guarded the borders of the Shire and the North. He was a close friend and collaborator of Gandalf, and together they hunted Gollum. He fell in love with Arwen Undomiel in Rivendell, and Elrond decreed that only the King of both Arnor and Gondor would be worthy of her hand.
Aragorn's role in the War of the Ring proved decisive. He guided the hobbits from Bree to Rivendell, joined the Fellowship, and after its breaking, pursued the Uruk-hai across Rohan with Legolas and Gimli. He fought at Helm's Deep, used the palantir to reveal himself to Sauron, took the Paths of the Dead and commanded the Dead Men of Dunharrow to fulfill their oath, captured the Corsair fleet, and arrived at the Battle of the Pelennor Fields to turn the tide. He led the last desperate march to the Black Gate to draw Sauron's eye from Frodo. After the war, he was crowned King Elessar ("Elfstone"), married Arwen, and reigned for 120 years, restoring the glory of the kingdoms of Men. He died willingly at the age of 210, one of the last to possess the long life of the Numenoreans.
