Gondor

Also known as: The South-Kingdom, The South Kingdom

The southern realm of the Dúnedain in exile, founded by Isildur and Anárion after the Downfall of Númenor. At its height Gondor's power stretched from the Misty Mountains to the sea, but plague, civil war, and the slow fading of the blood of Westernesse reduced it; its kings failed, and for nearly a thousand years it was governed by the Ruling Stewards. Its great cities were Osgiliath, Minas Anor (later Minas Tirith), and Minas Ithil (lost to the Nazgûl). Gondor bore the brunt of Sauron's war until the Ring was destroyed and Aragorn was crowned King Elessar, reuniting it with Arnor.
