The ancient first capital of Gondor, the Citadel of the Stars, built grandly across both banks of the Anduin with a great stone bridge between. The Kin-strife and the Great Plague began its long decay, and the chief palantír was lost in the river during the civil war. By the War of the Ring it was a contested ruin — Boromir held its last bridge, and its loss was the opening blow of the siege of Minas Tirith.
