Henneth Annun, the Window of the Sunset, was the hidden refuge of Faramir's Rangers of Ithilien: a cave set behind a waterfall in the western hills above a forbidden pool, so placed that the setting sun shone through the falling water in a shimmer of gold. From this secret hold the Rangers waged their guerrilla war upon the soldiers of Sauron. Thither Frodo and Sam were brought blindfolded and given rest, food, and counsel; and there Faramir proved his quality, letting the Ring-bearer go free upon his road.
