Also known as: Prince Of Ithilien, Steward Of Gondor
Younger son of Denethor II and brother of Boromir. Where Boromir was a warrior first, Faramir was a man of wisdom and learning, gentle and just, though no less brave. He was deeply influenced by Gandalf's teaching, which earned him his father's disfavor, for Denethor preferred Boromir's more martial nature. Faramir led the Rangers of Ithilien in guerrilla warfare against Sauron's forces. When he encountered Frodo and Sam in Ithilien, he was tempted by the Ring but refused it, saying he would not pick it up if he found it lying by the road. After the disastrous charge to retake Osgiliath, Faramir was wounded and lay near death in the Houses of Healing, where Aragorn revived him. He married Eowyn of Rohan, and they found healing together in the gardens of the Houses of Healing. He became Prince of Ithilien and Steward to King Elessar.
