Eowyn

Also known as: Dernhelm, White Lady Of Rohan, Lady Of The Shield-Arm, Lady Of Ithilien

Niece of King Theoden, sister of Eomer, and one of the great heroines of the War of the Ring. Eowyn suffered deeply during Theoden's decline, trapped in a court dominated by the sinister Wormtongue, and yearned for glory and escape from what she perceived as a cage. She fell in love with Aragorn, but he could not return her feelings. Disguising herself as a male rider named Dernhelm, she rode to the Pelennor Fields with the Rohirrim, bearing Merry with her in secret. There she faced the Witch-king of Angmar, who boasted that no living man could slay him. Eowyn replied that she was no man and, with Merry's aid, destroyed the Witch-king, though she was gravely wounded by the Black Breath. She was healed by Aragorn and found love and peace with Faramir, trading her desire for glory in battle for the calling of a healer and gardener.
