The kingdom of the Horse-lords, the green land between the White Mountains and the Anduin. Once the Gondorian province of Calenardhon, it was granted to Eorl the Young and his Éothéod in reward for their aid at the Field of Celebrant, bound to Gondor ever after by the Oath of Eorl. Its people, the Rohirrim, are masters of horses and breeders of the mearas; their capital is Edoras, their refuge the Hornburg. Under Théoden, Rohan turned back Saruman's army at Helm's Deep and rode to Gondor's aid on the Pelennor Fields.
