The Fords Of Isen

Also known as: The Ford Of Isen

The Fords of Isen were the chief crossing of the river Isen on the western marches of Rohan, near the mouth of the Gap of Rohan -- the gateway by which an enemy out of Isengard could fall upon the Mark. There the Rohirrim fought two desperate battles against Saruman's hosts: in the first, Theodred the king's son was slain holding the crossing, and in the second the defence was broken, opening the road that led at last to the great stand at Helm's Deep.
