The Men of the Mountains swore allegiance to Isildur and broke their oath, and his curse held them sleepless between the world and death until his heir should summon them. Aragorn dared the Door with the Grey Company, called the Dead to the Stone of Erech, and led them to take the fleets of Umbar — fulfilling the oath at last and setting the Sleepless Dead free.
