Also known as: The Hornburg, Aglarond, The Glittering Caves
The great gorge fortress of Rohan in the White Mountains, named for Helm Hammerhand, who held it through the Long Winter and whose horn still echoes in the Deep. Its citadel, the Hornburg, was held to be impregnable by assault. There Théoden withstood Saruman's army of ten thousand; the wall was breached by blasting-fire, but at dawn the king rode out with Aragorn at his side, Gandalf came with Erkenbrand, and the forest itself walked. Behind the fortress lie the Glittering Caves of Aglarond, whose beauty conquered even Gimli, who returned after the war to found a colony of Dwarves there.
