Dol Amroth was the chief city of the fief of Belfalas in southern Gondor, a fair harbour-citadel set upon a hill above the sea and named for Amroth, the Elven-king who was drowned in the bay below. Its princes were of high and ancient blood, with a strain of Elvish and Numenorean lineage, and bore a silver swan-ship upon a field of blue. In the War of the Ring Prince Imrahil led the knights of Dol Amroth to the defence of Minas Tirith -- the fairest and most valiant company in all the muster of Gondor -- and stood among the captains who marched at the last to the Black Gate.
