The Crossroads was the meeting of the great ways in Ithilien, where the road from Minas Morgul met the old road running west to Osgiliath and the City, set about with dark trees in the shadow of the mountains. At its centre stood a great statue of a king of old, throned and headless, defaced by the servants of Mordor; and as Frodo and Sam passed it, a last ray of the setting sun lit the fallen stone head where it lay, crowned about with white and golden flowers, and Sam saw that the king had a crown again.
