Also known as: Hithaeglir
The greatest mountain-chain of Middle-earth, the Hithaeglir, running nine hundred miles from the far north to the Gap of Rohan — raised, it is said, by Melkor in the ancient dark to hinder the riding of Oromë. Beneath them lie Khazad-dûm and the goblin-tunnels where Bilbo found the Ring and met Gollum; over them the High Pass and the Redhorn Gate carry travellers who dare. Caradhras, Celebdil, and Fanuidhol stand over Moria, and on Celebdil's peak Gandalf cast down the Balrog.
