Also known as: Gundabad
Mount Gundabad stood at the northern meeting of the Misty Mountains and the Grey Mountains, a peak held in reverence by the Dwarves, for there Durin the Deathless awoke at the beginning of days. In the later ages it was defiled and seized by the Orcs, who made it the chief stronghold and capital of their kind in the North, and from its tunnels poured great hosts of goblins. The desecration of so holy a place was among the bitterest griefs of Durin's Folk, and a root of the long and merciless war between the Dwarves and the Orcs of the Mountains.
