Mirrormere, called Kheled-zaram in the Dwarf-tongue, was a dark and wondrous lake in the Dimrill Dale beneath the eastern gate of Moria. Durin the Deathless looked into its still water in the deeps of time and saw, above the reflection of his own head, a crown of stars, and took it as a sign to found Khazad-dum. Ever after it was a hallowed place to his folk; even by day the lake mirrored only the sky and the stars, and gave back no image of the looker. Gimli gazed into it with reverence as the Fellowship fled down from Moria.
