The Carrock was a great rock standing in the midst of the Anduin in the northern Vales, with steps cut in its side and a flat space upon its top, set there (or so its maker claimed) by Beorn, the shape-changer who dwelt nearby between the river and the eaves of Mirkwood. Thorin's company, set down upon it by the Eagles after their rescue from the goblins and wargs, crossed from it to Beorn's hall to find food, rest, and grudging hospitality.
