The Dimrill Dale

Also known as: Nanduhirion, Azanulbizar

The Dimrill Dale, called Nanduhirion by the Elves and Azanulbizar by the Dwarves, was the deep valley below the eastern gates of Moria, walled by three great peaks and holding the cold lake Mirrormere and the springs of the Silverlode. There, before the East-gate, was fought the last and most terrible battle of the War of the Dwarves and Orcs, in which Thorin won his name Oakenshield; and through the Dale the Fellowship fled in grief after the loss of Gandalf in the Mines.
