The Redhorn, cruellest of the Mountains of Moria, called Barazinbar by the Dwarves — beneath it lies the lode of mithril, and from it was woken the Balrog. The mountain has an ill name and a will of its own; long before Sauron's reach extended there, it was known to throw snow and stone at travellers. It defeated the Fellowship on the Redhorn Gate in a single night of unnatural winter, forcing the choice of Moria.
