Imrahil was Prince of Dol Amroth, the fief on the sea-coast of southern Gondor. His sister Finduilas, daughter of Adrahil of Dol Amroth, had been the wife of Denethor and the mother of Boromir and Faramir, so he was uncle to both.1
He came to the defence of Minas Tirith late and in state, last of the lords of the outlands to arrive, at the head of the knights of Dol Amroth under the banner of the Swan Ship. The people of Gondor said that there was Elvish blood in his house, and that he looked it.2
When the Rammas Echor was lost, Imrahil and his knights rode out to cover the retreat, and it was Imrahil himself who brought the wounded Faramir back to the city. When Denethor's madness ended in the fire, the rule of Minas Tirith fell to him. On the field of the Pelennor, among the fallen, he found that Éowyn, whom they had thought dead, still lived.3,4,5,6
Afterwards Imrahil sat in the Last Debate and rode with Aragorn, Gandalf and Éomer to the Black Gate, a march made only to draw Sauron's eye from Frodo and Sam.7,8
His house outlasted the war. His daughter Lothíriel wed Éomer, King of Rohan, and the blood of Dol Amroth passed into the royal line of the Mark.9
