Finduilas was a lady of Dol Amroth, daughter of Prince Adrahil and sister of Prince Imrahil, and the wife of Denethor II, Steward of Gondor; she was the mother of Boromir and Faramir. Gentle and fair, she pined in the stern stone city of Minas Tirith, ever longing for the sea and the shores of her home, and died young, when Faramir was but five years old. It was said that her death darkened Denethor, who had loved her dearly, and turned him grimmer and colder in the long years that followed.
