The loremaster and minstrel of King Thingol in Doriath, said to be the greatest musician among the Elves (save only Maglor). He loved Luthien and twice betrayed her plans to Thingol out of jealousy. He invented the Cirth (runic writing system). After Luthien's departure, he wandered east and was never heard from again.
