Also known as: The Elvenking
King of the Woodland Realm in northern Mirkwood and father of Legolas. Thranduil is a Sindarin Elf who led his Silvan subjects from a great hall carved beneath a hill, reminiscent of Menegroth in ancient Doriath. He fought in the Battle of Dagorlad during the Last Alliance, where his father Oropher was slain. In The Hobbit, he imprisoned Thorin and Company when they trespassed in his realm, and he marched with an army to the Lonely Mountain to claim a share of Smaug's treasure. He fought in the Battle of Five Armies. During the War of the Ring, his realm was attacked by forces from Dol Guldur, and he led the defense of Mirkwood.
