The realm of the Witch-king in the far north of the Misty Mountains, established around the year 1300 of the Third Age for the single purpose of destroying the Dúnedain of the North. Over seven centuries Angmar ground down the successor kingdoms of Arnor one by one, until Arthedain fell in 1974. A year later the Witch-king was defeated at the Battle of Fornost by Gondor and Lindon — and the Elf-lord Glorfindel spoke his famous prophecy: not by the hand of man will he fall.
