The Ford Of Bruinen

Also known as: The Fords Of Bruinen, Bruinen, The Loudwater

The Ford of Bruinen was the crossing of the Loudwater that guarded the eastern approach to Rivendell, its waters under the command of Elrond, who could raise them in flood at need. There the flight of Frodo from the Nine reached its desperate end: borne by the Elf-lord Glorfindel's horse, the wounded Ring-bearer turned at bay upon the far bank; and as the Riders drove their horses into the stream, Elrond loosed the river in a roaring flood, crested with foam shaped like white horses, that swept the Nazgul away and broke their pursuit.
