Tar-Minastir was the eleventh King of Numenor, a lord learned in the lore of the stars and a friend of the Elves. When Sauron made war upon Gil-galad and the Elves of Lindon in the Second Age, Tar-Minastir sent a great fleet and a host out of Numenor to their aid; and that armament, falling upon the Enemy's forces, broke Sauron's power and drove him back into the East. Yet it was in his day that the Numenoreans first began to murmur against the Ban that forbade them the Undying Lands.
