Mim was the last of the Petty-dwarves, a diminished and outcast kindred who had been hunted as beasts in Beleriand before ever the Elves came there. He dwelt in hidden halls beneath the hill of Amon Rudh, and when Turin and his outlaw band captured him there, he ransomed his life by giving them his home as a refuge. But Mim nursed a secret hatred, and betrayed the hiding-place to the Orcs: Turin was taken alive, and Beleg slain in the rescue. Long after, Mim crept into the empty halls of Nargothrond to gloat upon the dragon's gold, and there Hurin found him and slew him, under the curse that lay upon the hoard.
