Also known as: The West-Gate Of Moria, The Doors Of Moria, The Elven Door
The West-gate of Khazad-dûm, made in the friendship of two peoples: Narvi the Dwarf wrought the doors, and Celebrimbor of Eregion drew the signs in ithildin, which mirrors only starlight and moonlight. The inscription reads: The Doors of Durin, Lord of Moria. Speak, friend, and enter. Gandalf wrestled with the riddle in the dark before the Watcher's pool until Merry's idle question unlocked it — the reading was simply say friend and enter, and the word mellon opened them. The Doors of those better days stand now between ruined holly trees, gateway to a darkened realm.
