Also known as: Tyrn Gorthad, The Barrows
The Barrow-downs, called Tyrn Gorthad of old, were a range of green hills east of the Old Forest, crowned with standing stones and the grass-grown mounds of a forgotten people; there the Dunedain of Cardolan were laid to rest in the days of Arnor. After the fall of the North-kingdom the Witch-king sent evil spirits, the Barrow-wights, to dwell among the bones. Frodo and his companions were trapped and nearly slain by a wight there, and saved only by the sudden coming of Tom Bombadil; from the hoard of the mound they took the ancient daggers of Westernesse that would one day prove deadly to the Lord of the Nazgul.
