The ruined watch-hill at the midpoint of the Great East Road, once Amon Sûl, where stood a great tower of Arnor holding the chief palantír of the North until Angmar burned it. Gandalf fought the Nine there by night, and days later the Witch-king stabbed Frodo on its summit with the Morgul-blade — the wound that never fully healed, and that in the end carried him over the sea.
