The wide lands between the Misty Mountains and the Blue Mountains, containing the Shire, Bree, Rivendell, and the ruins of the North-kingdom. Once the seat of Arnor's power, by the end of the Third Age it was largely empty, its scattered settlements guarded unseen by the Rangers of the North. Through Eriador runs the Great East Road, along which Frodo's journey began.
