Parth Galen was a green lawn upon the western shore of Nen Hithoel, the long lake above the falls of Rauros, beneath the hill of Amon Hen. There the Fellowship of the Ring came to its breaking: Boromir, overcome by desire for the Ring, tried to take it from Frodo, who fled across the lake alone with Sam; and there, soon after, Boromir died defending Merry and Pippin against the Uruk-hai, and his companions laid him in a boat and sent him over the falls.
