Eomund of Eastfold was the chief Marshal of the Mark in the days of King Theoden and the husband of Theodwyn, the king's sister; he was the father of Eomer and Eowyn. A bold and headstrong captain, ever foremost in the pursuit of the orc-raiders who troubled the eastern borders of Rohan, he was at the last lured into an ambush in the Emyn Muil and slain. His wife died of grief soon after, and their orphaned children were taken into the king's house and raised at Edoras as Theoden's own.
