Yavanna Kementari

Queen of the Earth, Giver of Fruits, and spouse of Aule, called Kementari, the Lady of the Wide Earth. Yavanna is the lover of all things that grow, from the mightiest mallorn to the humblest blade of grass and moss, and in her thought she takes at times the forms of these living things. Greatest of her works were the Two Trees of Valinor, Telperion the silver and Laurelin the gold, which she sang into being and whose mingled light lit the Blessed Realm in the ages before the Sun and Moon.

When she learned that Aule had made the Dwarves, who would delve and hew and fell trees, Yavanna grieved for the growing things that could not defend themselves, and she went to Manwe; out of their counsel, and a vision granted in the Music, came the Eagles of the air and the Shepherds of the Trees -- the Ents -- to guard the woods against the harms of the world's later masters. The slaying of the Two Trees by Morgoth and the spider Ungoliant was among the bitterest sorrows of the Valar; yet from their last flower and fruit were wrought the Moon and the Sun, and a scion of Telperion endured in the White Trees of the Eldar and of Numenor.
