King of the Valar, Lord of the Breath of Arda, and husband of Varda. Manwe is the noblest of the Ainur and the one closest in thought to Iluvatar himself. He dwells atop Taniquetil, the highest mountain in Arda, from which he surveys the world with eyes that see farther than any other. He is lord of the airs and winds, and the great eagles are his servants and messengers. Manwe is compassionate and wise, though his chief weakness is his inability to fully comprehend evil, for it is so foreign to his nature. He was brother in the thought of Iluvatar to Melkor, yet the two could not be more different. After Morgoth's defeat in the War of Wrath, it was Manwe who pronounced judgment upon him, casting him into the Void beyond the Walls of Night.
