The Three Rings

Also known as: Narya, Nenya, Vilya, The Rings Of The Elves, The Elven-Rings

The Three Rings of the Elves — Narya, Nenya, and Vilya — forged by Celebrimbor alone and never touched by Sauron, made not for war or dominion but to preserve, heal, and hold back the weariness of the world. Yet they too were bound to the One, and their keepers dared not use them openly while Sauron held it.

Vilya, the Ring of Air, mightiest of the Three, was borne by Gil-galad and then Elrond, upholding Rivendell. Nenya, the Ring of Adamant, was Galadriel's, and by it Lothlórien was kept timeless and golden. Narya, the Ring of Fire, passed from Círdan to Gandalf at his first landing, to kindle hearts against despair. With the One's destruction their power faded — the price the Wise paid willingly — and the Three went over the sea with their keepers.
