Also known as: The Great Rings, The Nine Rings, The Seven Rings
The Great Rings forged in Eregion in the Second Age by Celebrimbor and the Elven-smiths under the teaching of Annatar, Lord of Gifts — Sauron in fair disguise. Nineteen were made: Three for the Elves, Seven for the Dwarf-lords, Nine for mortal Men, all bound in secret to the One that Sauron forged to rule them. The Nine made their bearers mighty kings and sorcerers, then wraiths — the Nazgûl, slaves of the One forever. The Seven could not bend the Dwarves to wraithdom, but inflamed their gold-lust; dragons devoured four, and Sauron recovered the rest, taking the last from Thráin in the dungeons of Dol Guldur. Only the Three, untouched by Sauron's hand, remained free — while the One endured.
