Salgant was a lord of Gondolin, head of the House of the Harp, remembered chiefly for his cowardice and flattery. A fat and fawning lord who curried favour with the traitor Maeglin, he held his people back from the fighting in the Fall of Gondolin and hid himself in his house; and so the House of the Harp, who might have fought bravely, did little in the ruin of the city. His end is not recorded, save that it was inglorious.
