Also known as: Finwe First High King
Finwe was the first High King of the Noldor, who led his people on the Great Journey from Cuivienen to Aman and dwelt in Tirion upon Tuna. By his first wife Miriel Serinde he had one son, Feanor, mightiest of the Eldar; Miriel died of weariness after his birth, and her spirit would not return from the halls of Mandos. Finwe afterward wedded Indis of the Vanyar, and by her had Fingolfin and Finarfin, and the daughters Findis and Irime. The half-brotherhood of his sons, and Feanor's jealousy of Indis and her children, sowed the first division among the Noldor that Melkor's lies would later inflame.
When Feanor was banished to Formenos after threatening Fingolfin, Finwe went with his eldest son into exile rather than reign without him. It was there, in the unguarded north, that Melkor came and slew Finwe before the doors of his treasury -- the first of the Eldar to be slain in the Blessed Realm -- and bore away the Silmarils. His murder, more even than the theft, kindled Feanor's wrath and set the Noldor on the long road of rebellion and ruin.
